A relationship does not become healthy, balanced or safe based on the partners\u2019 skin colour, nationality or country of residence. In some accounts of mixed-race couples, moving abroad can nevertheless create particular vulnerability: leaving a job, living far from one\u2019s children or loved ones, depending on the other person for housing, and not immediately having one\u2019s own resources.<\/p>\n

When this dependence is compounded by insults, monitoring calls, isolation, repeated accusations or physical assault, the issue is not the couple\u2019s mixed background. It is abuse and coercive control. The priority is then not to preserve the image of the relationship, but to regain safety, support and a genuine ability to choose.<\/p>\n
